At times, our customers write to report issues such as receiving the same bagels repeatedly or noticing a decrease in the number of bagels on the Suggested section compared to their previous experience.
On Repeat Bagels
We would like to shed some light on a key aspect of our algorithm. Our algorithm is thoughtfully designed to occasionally reintroduce bagels you may have previously passed on, but only if there's a high likelihood of a meaningful connection. This approach is rooted in the observation that many users change their minds upon a second or third encounter with the same bagel, often due to various factors such as not paying full attention during the initial viewing.
Ideally, these revisited bagels should appear alongside new potential matches. However, for some users, we have limited availability of new bagels meeting their specified criteria. As a result, they end up primarily seeing these revisited bagels since there are no new ones to present to them.
As soon as a new bagel who aligns with their preferences (and vice versa) joins the platform, we promptly introduce them to those users, alongside the revisited bagels. However, this clarifies why certain users may find themselves repeatedly encountering the same bagels. These users are typically located in cities where our presence is still limited or have specific preferences regarding the bagels they wish to see in the 'Suggested' section.
However, we are here to share the good news that there are steps you can take to proactively improve your experience, rather than waiting for new bagels to join. The most effective approach is to consider adjusting your preference (distance and age are good ones to start with!), possibly expanding your preferences. You can also explore potential matches using the Discover search feature.
On Fewer Bagels
For the same reasons mentioned earlier, you might notice that we are presenting fewer bagels to you. To address this, you can consider the same troubleshooting solution: expanding your criteria.
