How does Coffee Meets Bagel work?

Coffee Meets Bagel (CMB) was made for relationship-seekers, so it works a little bit differently from other dating apps.

Every day at noon, we suggest a batch of your top potential matches. You can like or pass on them for free, and we’ll let you know if there’s a mutual match. Once you match, you can start chatting right away! 

Likes that fit your preferences are shown in Suggested over time, but you can always subscribe to Likes You if you want to see all your likes without waiting. And when someone sends you flowers – our special way to let someone know you’re super interested – you can see them in Likes You for free.

Want to meet even more people? Head over to Discover. Here, you can browse more profiles and send flowers to stand out and get noticed instantly in their Likes You section. Flowers can be purchased with beans, our in-app currency.

How does Suggested work? 🙋‍♀️

What to expect

Every day around noon, we'll send you a personalized batch of potential matches in the Suggested section. These people are picked just for you based on your Preferences, past likes and passes, whether they're likely to like you back, and more!

Check out the timer at the top of section to see how long you have until your next batch of suggestions. 

Liking and matching

Sending a regular like in Suggested is completely free. When you like someone in Suggested, you'll appear in their Suggested section soon, giving them a chance to match with you for free.

On the flip side, sometimes you'll see someone in Suggested who has already liked you! Like them back make it an instant match.

Preferences

Access your Preferences in the upper right corner of the Suggested section. Here, you can tell us more about your type and set some filters for free, including gender, age, distance, ethnicity, religion, and relationship goals. Note that these preferences are only for the Suggested section – they won't apply to Discover or Likes You.

Dealbreakers

We treat your preferences just like they sound – as preferences! So, if you've told us you prefer to see people who are within 5 miles, but we find someone we think is awesome for you who is 7 miles away, we'll still suggest them to you because we don't want you to miss out.

However, if you feel strongly about your preference, you can toggle "This is a dealbreaker" at the bottom of the Preference page. We'll never show you anyone outside your Preference, even slightly, if you say it's a dealbreaker.

Just keep in mind that selecting lots of dealbreakers may limit the number of potential suggestions in your pool, so you might see fewer matches over time.

Bonus Bagels

Suggested is purposefully paced to prevent swipe fatigue. But if you ever want to speed things up, you can become a subscriber to unlock Bonus bagels. With Bonus Bagels, we'll send you extra profiles in Suggested every day at noon. 

Premium Preferences

Subscribers get access to additional Premium Preferences, including height, education, family plans, kids, marital status, smoking, drinking, and exercise.

Sending flowers

Some subscriptions come with free monthly flowers. Send flowers instead of a regular like to stand out and get seen sooner. 

How does Likes You work? 💜

Receiving flowers

Likes You is where you can find everyone who sends you likes and flowers. You can view and like back anyone who sends you flowers for free. They'll be shown unblurred at the top of the Likes You section.

Receiving likes

Blurred profiles will also appear as you get new likes. Only subscribers can view and match instantly with people in Likes You who send regular likes. You'll also see these likes in the Suggested section over time – which means you'll never have to pay to connect with your best potential matches.

In addition to seeing all their likes at once, subscribers can sort their likes by groups, including "Online recently," "Nearby," and "Shared interests." There's also "My type," which uses your Preferences for Suggested to sort these likes.

How does Discover work? 🔍

What to expect

Discover is where you can find more people outside of our daily suggestions. We recommend starting with your Suggested batch, then moving to Discover if you want to see more people.

Starting a search

Start a search to use filters including age range, height range, distance, degree, ethnicity, and recent activity. Since Discover is all about exploring more people, your search won't be saved when you close and reopen the app.

Expressing interest

Regular likes aren't available in Discover – instead, you can opt to send flowers. Sending flowers will help you stand out and get shown instantly to your potential match in Like You. When you initiate sending flowers, you'll be prompted to buy them with beans, our in-app currency.

Just as in Suggested, subscribers can first use any free flowers that come with their subscription before they purchase more. 

 

How do chats work? 💬

Once you like someone and they've liked you back – it's a match! Matches can start a conversation for free in the Chats section. Chats are open for an initial 7 days, but it will stay open for longer so long as there's an active conversation. If a chat closes, you can reopen it by spending beans.

 

How do beans work? ☕️

Beans unlock special features, like sending flowers or boosting your profile to get more views. You can occasionally earn free beans for things like signing in for the first time, interacting with people in Suggested, or following us on social media through our link in the Shop.

Various bean bundles are also available for purchase in the Shop.

 

How do subscriptions work? 💓

It's our mission to make love accessible to everyone, so you'll never have to pay to have a chance at meeting your forever person. However, if you're the type of person who wants to speed things up, or if you prefer more control, you may want to consider subscribing.
